What Happens After Invisalign Treatment?

What Happens After Invisalign Treatment?Invisalign is a clear, and thin device used in orthodontic treatments. They are also referred to as clear aligners. Dental practitioners use smart track, which is a flexible thermostatic material to make Invisalign. They make Invisalign to make orthodontic treatment less conspicuous.

Invisalign is used to treat several dental issues that include overbite, underbite, gap teeth, and even crowded teeth. The treatment takes up to 12-18 months to complete. You will also have to wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day. Once the treatment is over, here are the steps that you may need to take;

You Will Need Retainers

Now that you have completed the 12 to 18 months as directed by the orthodontist, you may wonder what is next for you. The first step is to get retainers. Just like with treatment with braces, you will need a retainer after your treatment with Invisalign. This is because once you stop wearing the Invisalign, the teeth may shift back into their original position. To prevent this shifting, your dentist will recommend retainers.

You may decide to get either fixed or removable retainers. Fixed retainers are a more permanent solution, as they eliminate any risks of losing the retainers. However, most people who have Invisalign, prefer the removable retainers.

How Long Will I Need the Retainers?

Dentists recommend wearing your retainers for six months after your Invisalign treatment. You will also need to wear the retainers for at least 22 hours a day. However, after the six months is over, your dentist will recommend wearing the retainers for another six months, but only at night.

Do I Need Any Other Treatment After Retainers?

No, you will not need any other treatment plan after the dentist removes your retainers. However, once the dentist removes the retainers, you may experience some staining. Therefore, you may need to schedule a stain removal appointment with your dentist.

It is important to state that dentists use Invisalign to treat non-complex issues. If you have a complex misalignment issue, then your dentist may recommend another orthodontic appliance. This is because Invisalign does not apply enough pressure on the teeth to fix complex issues.
