Fun Floss FactsOne of the important things for ensuring healthy teeth and gums is flossing. It is a simple process, but there is always room for improvement. Trying out various types of floss can help get the job done better. The reason flossing is crucial is that it allows you to clean the hard-to-reach areas, particularly between the teeth to remove plaque and debris. Left on the teeth, the soft sticky biofilm known as plaque, is able to harden and can easily contribute to tooth decay.

What Kind of Floss is Best?

If you are concerned about what dental floss you should use, there are various types you can choose from. Whether it is flavored or unflavored, wide or thin, or waxed and unwaxed, you have got a wide choice to select. No single floss type is right for everyone. What may work best for you may not be the case for another person. You may even consider having more than one type of floss. In most cases, you find the best flosser through trial and error. Trying different types will allow you to narrow down on your choices to see what works best.

Choosing a Flosser

There are a number of things you should bear in mind when choosing a flosser. Waxed flosser, for example, fits more easily within tight spaces. On the flip side, unwaxed floss squeaks against clean teeth, giving a false impression that plaque is gone. When it comes to wider dental tape, it tends to work within gaps between teeth as well as on bridgework.

Our dentist recommends traditional string floss that works by pulling out in an extended strand contrary to a flossing pick. Although those little picks tend to be popular, you cannot wrap them around the teeth. Often, flossing becomes more effective when you are able to do it around your teeth. Perhaps, you may find the picks more suitable when on the go.

There are also the water flossers that work by directing a stream or jets of water that spray the areas in between the teeth to remove plaque. Kids find the water flossers more fun, thus helping them keep up with their oral hygiene. Regardless of what flosser you choose, make sure that you floss not less than one time a day. You can do it before or after brushing. Contact us to learn more about flossers and flossing.
